Meet Your State Coordinator
Jeff Sandquist
Jeff Sandquist is a retired music educator and past president of the Missouri Music Educators Association, Missouri Choral Directors Association, and Southwest Division American Choral Directors Association. He also served as the Honor Choir Chair for the SWACDA Honor Choirs for over 20 years. For over forty years, Jeff has inspired all levels of music students, from elementary school to college students.
He has been involved with the Missouri Ambassadors of Music since the 1990s, serving as a staff member, choir director, and, most recently, as state coordinator since 2020. In this role, he enjoys developing relationships with music educators from across the state in all music disciplines.
Jeff is honored to share such a high-quality musical experience for students from all sizes of Missouri schools – opportunities they might not have in their community. He believes in the power of music to change both the performer and audience member through the experience.
My Favorite Ambassadors Memory
My favorite memories all have to do with performing music well and seeing the impact of that shared experience – on both the performers and the audience. The moment when the music transcends the language barriers, time and place, and a shared emotional experience happens – it’s the magic of music.
I’ve experienced it several times over the years; St. Mark’s in Venice, The Dom in Salzburg, St. Severance in Paris, Franciskirche in Rothenburg, Wilton Basilica in Innsbruck and the Church of St. Oswald in Seefeld, Austria. Music provides for meaningful bonding with people you have never met, and may never see again, but you will always remember that shared experience.
My Favorite Travel Destination
Boundary Waters between Minnesota and Canada – natural beauty and solitude.
One Thing I Never Travel Without
An open mind and willingness to experience. It isn’t about “the stuff,” it’s about the experience.
